The Improvangelist

From my first paid stage experience at The Second City Toronto all of my professional life has been informed by the discipline of improvisation.  I’m not sure if creative excuses for broken windows and lost homework counts as true improvisation but if so then perhaps I was born to improvise.

I’ve been an actor/writer for 30 years and have been lucky to work with creative and dedicated people doing both.  But the most enriching aspect of my work has been the teaching I do.  Because despite people coming to improvisation for a wide variety of reasons it never fails to enhance their lives beyond the classroom.

As corny as it sounds, periodically a student will come to me after class and tell me that improvisation has changed their lives.  And I believe it has that power to motivate and transform.

I was drawn into the world of corporate training through Rosabeth Moss Kanter of the Harvard Business School, who has been preaching for years how smart businesses today have distinct parallels with improvisational theatre.

I teach businesses the value of true creative collaboration.

So I am a father, husband, son, teacher, writer, actor, golfer…all of which have combined to make me an Improvagelist.
